History

Takasaki-Shōka-Daigakumae Station opened on 17 March 2002 on the Jōshin Line in what is now the Negoyamachi district of Takasaki, Gunma Prefecture. The station was newly built to serve Takasaki University of Commerce, whose junior college had been upgraded to a four-year institution in April 2001 with a corresponding rise in student numbers. The stop is a single ground-level side platform on the line's 5.0-kilometre mark from Takasaki and is unstaffed; toilets are flush-type. Since April 2011 the university has subsidised commuter passes for its students, partly to encourage use of the new station.

Notes

The station exists because Takasaki Shōka Junior College became a four-year university in 2001, prompting Jōshin Dentetsu to add a new stop the following year specifically to serve the campus.
