History

Shimatakamatsu Station is on JR East's Ōito Line in the city of Matsumoto in Nagano Prefecture, 3.8 kilometres from the Matsumoto terminus and numbered 39. It opened on 14 April 1926 as a station of the privately built Shinano Railway, handling passengers only and run on a consignment basis. The line was nationalised in 1937 and the station passed to JR East with the privatisation of JNR on 1 April 1987. A new elevated station building was completed in April 2000, and Suica acceptance began on 15 March 2025. The station has a single side platform with a waiting room and is unattended, managed remotely from Matsumoto.
