History

Namezu Station is on JR East's Koumi Line in the city of Saku in Nagano Prefecture, 66.5 kilometres from the Kobuchizawa starting point. It opened on 6 June 1916 as Namezu Stop on the privately built Saku Railway, was nationalised on 1 September 1934 and renamed Namezu Station, and then ceased operations entirely from 1 March 1944. The station was reopened on 1 March 1952 between Nakagomi and Kita-Nakagomi for passenger traffic only. With the privatisation of JNR on 1 April 1987 it passed to JR East. The single side platform is only long enough for about two cars, so on morning and evening three-car services the front car uses door-cut, with one set of doors kept closed.
