History
Shinano-Arai Station is in the city of Matsumoto in Nagano Prefecture and is operated by Alpico Kōtsū on its Kamikōchi Line, 1.9 kilometres from the Matsumoto terminus and numbered AK-04. It opened on 2 October 1921 as a station of the Chikuma Railway, which became Chikuma Electric Railway in 1922, Matsumoto Electric Railway in 1932 and Alpico Kōtsū in 2011. The present station building was rebuilt in June 1993. The station has a single island platform with two tracks. In August 2021 heavy rains damaged the Tagawa bridge between Nishi-Matsumoto and Nagisa and the section was closed; partial service to Nagisa resumed on 8 October 2021. Suica acceptance is planned for spring 2027.
