History
Awara-Yunomachi Station opened on 15 December 1911 as Awara Station, a stop on the Japanese Government Railways Mikuni Line in what is now Awara, Fukui Prefecture. After the 1942 merger of Mikuni Awara Electric Railway into Keifuku Electric Railway it became a Keifuku station, and operations were suspended between October 1944 and August 1946. The stop was renamed Awara-Yumachi (芦原湯町) on 1 March 1972. Following another suspension after a 2001 accident, it was renamed Awara-Yunomachi on 20 July 2003, and reopened on 10 August 2003 under Echizen Railway, now 20.0 kilometres from the Fukuiguchi terminus.

Notes
Awara-Yunomachi serves as the closest station to Awara Onsen's hot-spring district, although most long-distance visitors arrive at JR's Awaraonsen Station some four kilometres east.
