History
Minami-Matsumoto Station opened on 1 September 1944 as a stop on the Shinonoi Line in what is now Matsumoto, Nagano Prefecture. With the 1 April 1987 dissolution and privatisation of Japanese National Railways, the station came under the control of JR East. JR Freight separately operates a freight terminal on the site. From February 2025, line-wide station numbering was introduced and the station received the designator SN05. The stop is 10.9 kilometres from the line's terminus at Shiojiri, and many Chūō Main Line services run through Shiojiri and continue to Matsumoto via this station. The current layout is a single ground-level island platform with a staffed Midori no Madoguchi ticket office.

Notes
Although nominally on the Shinonoi Line, the station also handles through-running Chūō Main Line trains continuing from Shiojiri to Matsumoto, and JR Freight operates a sizeable freight terminal on the same site.
