History

Moriguchi Station opened on 10 May 1922 as a stop on the Tsukama Railway in what is now Matsumoto, Nagano Prefecture, on the line that became today's Kamikōchi Line. The corporate name passed through Tsukama Electric Railway and Matsumoto Electric Railway before settling under Alpico Kōtsū from 1 April 2011. A new station building was opened on 24 March 2012, and the disused old building was demolished in March 2015 with its footprint converted into a car park. The station has two opposed side platforms 8.6 kilometres from the line's Matsumoto terminus, connected by a level crossing, and limited weekday ticket sales are provided by a commissioned attendant.

Notes

When a train approaches, the waiting-room indicator plays a few bars of the Nagano prefectural song Shinano no Kuni.
