History

Tamamura Station opened on 5 November 1931 as a station on the privately operated Jōsō Railroad. Through wartime and post-war mergers — first into Jōsō-Tsukuba Railway in 1945, then into Kantō Railway in 1965 — the station has remained on what is now the Jōsō Line, 31.0 km from the line's starting point at Toride. The station building was rebuilt in July 1967, and on-platform ticket sales by an agent ended in July 1982, leaving the station unattended. The station has no proper building, only a small waiting room on the single side platform serving bidirectional traffic. PASMO IC card acceptance began on 14 March 2009.
