History

Shimoshii Station opened on 15 December 1951, added by the Keifuku Electric Railway as an intermediate stop between Higashi-Furuichi (today's Eiheijiguchi) and Kōmyōji on the Echizen Main Line. Station duties were discontinued and the stop was destaffed on 1 June 1975. After the head-on Echizen Main Line collision of 24 June 2001, services across the line were suspended. The facilities were transferred to Echizen Railway on 1 February 2003 and Shimoshii reopened on 19 October 2003 with the resumption of Eiheijiguchi - Katsuyama services, now operated as part of the Katsuyama Eiheiji Line. The station retains a single side platform with a small waiting room.
