History

The current Yatsushima Station is the second to bear the name on the Mikuni Awara Line. An earlier Yatsushima Station opened on 30 December 1928 with the Mikuni Awara Electric Railway's Fukuiguchi - Awara line and was absorbed into Keifuku Electric Railway in August 1942 before being suspended on 20 April 1944; that first station, in a different location, was eventually closed. The present station, built by local petition on Echizen Railway's Mikuni Awara Line between the newly opened Nikkakagaku-Mae and Nittazuka, opened on 1 September 2007. Low-floor platforms for through services from Fukui Railway's Fukubu Line were added on 27 March 2016.

Notes

Like its sister station Nikkakagaku-Mae, the platform was originally raised on a base of Fukui-grown thinned timber as a future-LRT-ready design; the raised section was removed in 2016 when low-floor trains began running.
