History
Echizen-Shinbo Station opened on 11 April 1916 (some sources give 17 April) as Shinbo Station on the Kyoto Dento Echizen Electric Railway line between Fukuiguchi and Oiwakeguchi, and joined the new Keifuku Electric Railway in March 1942 when that operator was formed. It was renamed Echizen-Shinbo in August 1951, with operations placed under contract in 1981. Following the head-on collision on the Echizen Main Line in June 2001, the entire line shut down and the station closed; in 2003 the assets were transferred to the third-sector Echizen Railway and service resumed on 20 July as part of the Katsuyama Eiheiji Line. The station today sits at 3.4 km from Fukui and is normally staffed.
