History
Matsumoto Machiya Station opened on 27 September 2015 on Echizen Railway's Mikuni Awara Line, 1.0 km from the line's terminus at Fukuiguchi. The stop was added because the 1.6 km gap between Fukuiguchi and Nishi-Betsuin was unusually long for the line, and residents began campaigning for an infill station in 2013 under Echizen Railway's public-transport activation plan. Subsidy funding was budgeted in fiscal 2014, the project was approved later that year as the provisional "Shin-Machiya Station," and the final name and opening date were announced in August 2015. The single-platform halt is unstaffed; the chosen name reflects its location on the boundary between the Matsumoto and Machiya neighbourhoods of Fukui.
