History

Ichinami Station opened on 15 December 1960, the day the Japanese National Railways Etsumi-Hoku Line was extended through Fukui to Katsuhara, in what is today the city of Fukui in Fukui Prefecture. The station has been unstaffed since opening. It came under JR West with the 1 April 1987 privatisation of JNR. The line, today branded as the Kuzuryū Line, was closed between Echizen-Hanandō and Bijuyama from 18 July 2004 to 30 June 2007 because of torrential-rain damage to the track, and replacement bus service operated in the interim. The station today consists of one ground-level side platform with only a shelter, served by a single bi-directional track.
