History
Kowashōzu Station opened on 15 December 1960 with the Japanese National Railways Etsumi-Hoku Line's extension between Echizen-Hanandō and Katsuhara, in what is today the city of Fukui in Fukui Prefecture. The station has been unstaffed since opening. It came under JR West with the JNR privatisation on 1 April 1987. Like other stations on the line, it was closed for nearly three years between 18 July 2004 and 30 June 2007 after torrential rains damaged the tracks, with replacement bus service operating from a stop on a parallel section of National Route 158. The station consists of a single ground-level side platform with only a shelter and no ticket machines.
