History

Chichibu Station opened on 27 October 1914 when the Chichibu Railway extended its Chichibu Main Line to the city of Chichibu in Saitama Prefecture. The station is staffed and serves as a managing station for several adjacent stops along the line. A new station building opened on 2 March 1985, combining the station functions with the Chichibu Regional Industries Promotion Centre, which houses a local-products shop and an exhibition floor on the second storey. The original 1914 station building was relocated in 1984 to Seichi Park north-east of the present station and is registered as a National Tangible Cultural Property. PASMO IC card use began on 12 March 2022.

Notes

The original 1914 station building was moved in 1984 to Seichi Park, north-east of the present station, where it stands as a registered National Tangible Cultural Property. A former delta line east of the station was once used to turn the Paleo Express steam locomotive before a turntable was installed at Mitsumineguchi.
