History
Shōnan Station opened on 1983-12-22 with the start of the Saitama New Urban Transit Ina Line (New Shuttle), and carries station code NS08. It is an elevated station with two side platforms and two tracks, located just before the diverging point of the Tōhoku and Jōetsu Shinkansen between Maruyama and Haraichi. The name comes from the place name Shōnan in the northern part of the former town of Haraichi-machi that is now part of Ageo. In April 2004 it became the first intermediate station on the Ina Line to receive lifts, installed under Ageo City's accessibility policy because the platforms here sit higher above the street than at any other intermediate station on the line. The Suica IC card became usable on 2007-03-18, and an LCD departure display was installed near the ticket gate on 2017-07-21.

Notes
Shōnan was the first non-terminal stop on the New Shuttle to get an elevator — installed in 2004 because the platform was further above street level than at any other intermediate station on the Ina Line.
