History
Nishiyama-Kōen Station opened on 13 August 1929 as Shimo-Sabae Station on what is now the Fukui Railway Fukubu Line, in present-day Sabae, Fukui Prefecture. The station was renamed Nishiyama-Kōen Station on 10 April 1987 to reflect its role as the nearest stop to Nishiyama Park, a short walk west across the platform. The single ground-level side platform serves one bi-directional track, and the station is normally unstaffed. During the seasonal Suribachiyaito event and the Azalea Festival held over Golden Week, however, the station is staffed midday and select Fukui-Ekimae-bound express services make special stops here.
