History

Ippommatsu Station opened on 22 March 1997 in the town of Kawara, Fukuoka Prefecture, on JR Kyushu's Hitahikosan Line at a point 25.0 km from the line's starting point at Jōno. The station was added to the list of rapid-service stops on 14 July 2018 and has been assigned the line number JI12. The layout is a single ground-level side platform serving a bidirectional track, with no permanent staff; a vending machine is provided, and during morning peak periods a staff member from neighbouring Tagawa-Ita Station is temporarily posted to handle the heavier alighting flow. A short distance south of the modern station once stood an earlier Ippommatsu halt operated by the Kokura Railway between 1935 and 1942.
