History

Takefu Station opened on 15 July 1896 as a Government Railway station with the inaugural Tsuruga - Fukui section of the Hokuriku Line. The 1909 line-naming kept it within the Hokuriku Main Line. Freight handling - which included a private spur to the Shin-Etsu Chemical Industry Takefu plant - was abolished on 1 February 1984 and parcel handling on 1 November 1986. JR West took over operation at the 1 April 1987 privatisation, and ICOCA acceptance began on 15 September 2018. On 16 March 2024 the section through Takefu was transferred to Hapi-Line Fukui when the Hokuriku Shinkansen extension from Kanazawa to Tsuruga opened, ending the station's 128-year run.

Notes

On the platform stands a model dragon forged from locally made Echizen-uchihamono blades, a nod to the area's traditional cutlery industry.
