History
Minami-Yono Station opened on 30 September 1985 in present-day Chūō-ku, Saitama, as one of the original Saikyō Line stations between Kita-Akabane and Kita-Yono. Although the route is nominally part of the Tōhoku Main Line, services have always been operated and presented as the Saikyō Line. The station passed to JR East at the privatisation of the Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987. Suica IC card use began on 18 November 2001, and from 31 October 2017 the introduction of the ATACS signalling system raised approach speeds to 65 km/h. The 30 November 2019 timetable revision added rapid-service stops here.

Notes
Each Saikyō Line station that opened on 30 September 1985 was assigned its own colour; Minami-Yono's is tokiwa-iro, a deep evergreen green still in use today.
