History

Toda-Kōen Station opened on 30 September 1985 as a Japanese National Railways stop on the new Akabane–Ōmiya section now operated as the Saikyō Line. It became part of JR East on 1 April 1987 at privatisation. The Beans Toda Kōen retail concourse opened on 22 November 1991, and automatic ticket gates entered service on 21 July 1992. Suica IC fares became valid on 18 November 2001. Since 1 August 2007 the upbound platform's departure melody has used an arrangement of the city of Toda's anthem. The ATACS signalling system was activated on 4 November 2017, raising platform-approach speeds. The staffed ticket office closed on 25 September 2022, replaced by a talkable reserved-seat machine.

Notes

Although Toda's city hall sits closer to the next stop, Toda Station, Toda-Kōen is treated as the city's representative station in the JTB national timetable because of its higher patronage and Rapid-service stop status.
