History

Takimoto Station is the lower terminus of the 1.107 km Mitake Tozan Railway Cable-car Line in Mitake 2-chōme, Ōme, Tokyo. The line, owned by the Keiō Group, opened on 31 December 1934 between Takimoto and Mitake-san (climbing 423.6 m at up to a 25° gradient), was suspended in 1944 as a wartime non-essential line, reopened on 29 June 1951, came under the Keiō Teito Electric Railway (today Keiō Corporation) on 29 May 1972, and was regauged from 1,067 mm to 1,049 mm on 6 July 1991. Takimoto also houses the Mitake Tozan headquarters and offers parking, a souvenir shop and a station-soba stand.

Notes

Mitake Tozan is one of only a handful of Japanese rail operators — the others including the Jukkokutōge Cable Line — that allows passengers to bring dogs aboard the cars without crates or carriers. Pet boarding has been formally accepted since 2009, with over 10,000 dogs riding each year.
