History

Kami-Nakazato Station opened on 1 July 1933 as a Ministry of Railways stop in Kita Ward, Tokyo. Although the line of record is the Tōhoku Main Line, only Keihin-Tōhoku Line services have ever stopped at the platforms. Baggage handling ended on 15 July 1949, and with the dissolution of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987 the station passed to JR East. Suica IC card service began on 18 November 2001, the Midori-no-Madoguchi ticket office closed in March 2005 in favour of a reserved-seat ticket machine, and the platform was equipped with smart platform-edge doors on 3 February 2021. Day-to-day operations were transferred to JR East Station Service in April 2007 under the management of nearby Ōji Station.
