History

Kōshinzuka Station (SA 21) is a Tokyo Toden Arakawa Line stop in Nishi-sugamo 2-chōme, Toshima, Tokyo. It opened on 20 August 1911 when the Ōji Electric Tramway connected Asukayama-jō (today Asukayama) and Ōtsuka (today Ōtsuka-eki-mae). The stop passed to Tokyo City Tram's Takinogawa Line (today the Arakawa Line) on 1 February 1942, was suspended in 1944 during wartime restrictions and reopened on 10 July 1946. A renovation completed on 19 December 2008 redressed the stop in a 1950s-retro wooden-grain style, with a restaurant attached to the Minowabashi-bound platform; the Sugamo Jizō-dōri Shopping Street, served by Takagan-ji (the 'splinter Jizō' temple), draws crowds on the 4th, 14th and 24th of each month.

Notes

Kōshinzuka stop is the gateway to Sugamo Jizō-dōri shopping street, where every month's 4th, 14th and 24th become bustling fairs at the Kōgan-ji 'splinter Jizō' temple — drawing crowds of the elderly.
