History

Shin-okachimachi Station is an underground interchange in Taitō, Tokyo, jointly served by the Toei Ōedo Line (E-10) and the Tsukuba Express (TX02). The Ōedo Line platform opened on 12 December 2000 when the line completed its loop; the Tsukuba Express platform followed on 24 August 2005, turning the stop into a two-operator transfer. During planning both stations carried the working name "Motoasakusa". The Tsukuba Express platform sits roughly 30 metres below street level, the second-deepest on its line. Ōedo Line ridership initially trailed forecasts but climbed sharply after the 2005 cross-platform tie-in, passing 30,000 daily passengers in fiscal 2008 and 50,000 by fiscal 2016.

Notes

Despite carrying its own station code, the Tsukuba Express platform is managed at street level by Toei because the Ōedo Line station was already under construction when TX work began; even the A2 and A4 exits owned by TX are operated by the Tokyo Metropolitan Bureau of Transportation.
