History

Kagurazaka Station opened on 23 December 1964 as part of the initial Tōzai Line stretch between Takadanobaba and Kudanshita, built by the Teito Rapid Transit Authority. The station passed to Tokyo Metro on 1 April 2004 with TRTA’s privatisation. PASMO IC service began on 18 March 2007, and Mukaiya Minoru-composed departure melodies were introduced on 26 May 2015. Because of the narrow street above, the station was built on split levels with two single-track side platforms: platform 1 (toward Mitaka) on basement level 3 and platform 2 (toward Nishi-Funabashi) on basement level 2. A new 1b exit opened on 30 March 2019 with an elevator and escalator, easing the climb that had until then required stairs.

Notes

Because the station is on a tight underground street, the up and down platforms occupy different basement levels and passengers do not see each other across the tracks — a layout shared by only a handful of Tokyo subway stops.
