History

Hōnanchō Station is the terminus of the 3.2 km Honancho branch of the Tokyo Metro Marunouchi Line in Suginami ward, Tokyo, numbered Mb-03. It opened on 23 March 1962 as part of the then Teito Rapid Transit Authority (TRTA) Ogikubo Line branch, passing to Tokyo Metro on the operator's privatisation in 2004. Construction beginning in 2013 lengthened the platform from 110 m to 136 m and added six-car platform-edge doors, enabling through six-car Ikebukuro services from July 2019. In November 2016 the station's line code was changed from lowercase m to Mb (Marunouchi branch) so that automated announcements would distinguish it from Shinkōenji (M-03).

Notes

In November 2016 the line code was switched from lowercase "m" to "Mb" so that audio announcements would no longer confuse this stop with Shinkōenji (M-03), whose Japanese pronunciation matches in spoken form.
