History

Kayabachō Station is an interchange in Nihonbashi-Kayabachō, Chūō ward, Tokyo, operated by Tokyo Metro with the Hibiya Line (H 13) and Tōzai Line (T 11) meeting perpendicularly underground. It opened on 28 February 1963 when the Teito Rapid Transit Authority's Hibiya Line ran south to Higashi-Ginza, and became a transfer point when the Tōzai Line platforms opened on 14 September 1967. Because the Hibiya Line had been built first knowing a Line 5 (Tōzai) crossing would follow, a 39-metre Tōzai box was constructed in advance under the Hibiya tracks. The station passed to Tokyo Metro at the TRTA privatisation in 2004, and on 6 June 2020 the Hibiya Line TH-Liner reserved seat service between Ebisu and Kuki began stopping here.

Notes

An out-of-fare-gate underground corridor links the station's central exit to Nihombashi on the Toei Asakusa Line and onwards to Tokyo Metro Nihombashi, but the route is not designated as an official transfer and IC card riders pay both fares.
