History
Roppongi Station opened on 25 March 1964 as a Hibiya Line stop on the Teito Rapid Transit Authority's subway network, between Kasumigaseki and Ebisu. From March 1994 the Hibiya concourse and platforms were widened in anticipation of additional traffic, with work completing in March 2001 at a cost of around 3.97 billion yen. The Toei Oedo Line station opened on 12 December 2000, transforming Roppongi into a major interchange. Hibiya facilities passed to Tokyo Metro at the TRTA's privatisation on 1 April 2004, and PASMO acceptance followed on 18 March 2007. The Oedo Line platform 1 lies 42.3 m below ground, making it the deepest subway platform in Japan.
