History

Kokubo Station opened on 30 March 1928 as a station of the Fuji-Minobu Railway between Ichikawadaimon and Kofu, in what is now the town of Showa in Nakakoma District, Yamanashi Prefecture. The railway was leased by the Ministry of Railways from October 1938 and nationalised on 1 May 1941, becoming part of the JNR Minobu Line. Freight handling ended in November 1960 and parcel service in September 1972, with the station becoming unstaffed from June 1983. It passed to JR Central at the 1 April 1987 privatisation. From 1 October 2025, IC card "TOICA" became usable at the station. Although administratively located in Showa, the prefectural boundary with the city of Kofu runs through the platform area.

Notes

The boundary between the town of Showa and the city of Kofu runs through the middle of the station; the platforms lie mostly on the Kofu side, while the station building falls just inside Showa.
