History
Awano Station opened on 15 December 1917 in Tsuruga, Fukui Prefecture, on what is now the Obama Line, 7.7 kilometres from the line’s terminus at Tsuruga. With the 1 April 1987 privatisation of Japanese National Railways the station came under West Japan Railway Company (JR West). The unattended station consists of a single island platform reached from the station building via a level pedestrian crossing. It serves the area around the Tsuruga National Medical Center.
