History

Mihama Station opened on 15 December 1917 as Kawaharaichi Station (河原市駅), located on the JGR Obama Line in what is today the town of Mihama in Fukui Prefecture's Mikata District. It was renamed to its present form on 10 April 1956. Freight handling ended on 15 March 1973, with parcel handling ending on 1 February 1984. The station passed to JR West with the privatisation of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987. The line was electrified on 15 March 2003, and a Midori no Madoguchi staffed ticket office opened earlier that same month. The office discontinued operations on 16 March 2025.

Notes

Although freight handling ended in 1973, transformers built by Mitsubishi Electric have continued to occasionally arrive at Mihama by rail from Nishihama Station on the Akō Line.
