History

Tanokura Station opened on 19 June 1929 on the Fujikyuko Line in present-day Tsuru, Yamanashi Prefecture, 3.0 km from the line terminus at Ōtsuki. Day-to-day operation was contracted out in February 1973, and automatic train stop equipment was installed in fiscal 2010. Suica acceptance began on 14 March 2015, and on 1 April 2022 the station passed to Fujisan Express Electric Railway after Fuji Kyuko spun off its rail division. The two opposing platforms are staggered and are linked by a level crossing equipped with crossing gates; a small wooden station building still houses a simple Suica reader and a (currently dormant) ticket window, retaining its early-Shōwa character.

Notes

Each Fujikyuko Line station carries a Thomas-the-Tank-Engine themed signboard; Tanokura's assigned character is the diesel locomotive Diesel 10.
