History
Kawaguchiko Station opened on 24 August 1950 as the terminus of the Fuji Sanroku Electric Railway's line from Ōtsuki. The operating company became Fuji Kyūkō (Fujikyu) following a name change on 30 May 1960. The station was selected for the Kantō Top-100 Stations list in 1997, cited for its alpine appearance against the backdrop of Mount Fuji. A new wooden station building opened on 24 March 2006, also housing the highway-bus ticket counter and a souvenir shop. Suica became usable from 14 March 2015, and a secondary station name, "Fujikawaguchiko Onsenkyō," was added on 18 December 2020. Following Fujikyū's rail-business split on 1 April 2022, the line returned to a new Fuji Sanroku Electric Railway company.

Notes
The station's departure jingle is the Meiji-era school song "Fuji no Yama," and a preserved Mo Type 1 electric car from the railway's earliest fleet stands on display in the forecourt.
