History

Shimoyoshida Station opened on 19 June 1929 as a Fuji Sanroku Electric Railway stop, became a Fuji Kyukō station with the operator's 1960 rename, and joined the new Fuji Sanroku Denki Tetsudō entity on 1 April 2022 after Fuji Kyukō spun off its rail business. Freight was dropped in 1978 and staff functions outsourced the same year. A renovation overseen by industrial designer Eiji Mitooka completed on 18 July 2009, and the adjacent Blue Train Terrace, displaying former JR sleeping car SuHaNeFu 14-20 and other rolling stock, opened on 29 April 2011 before closing on 17 April 2026. The station sits in Fujiyoshida, Yamanashi Prefecture, with station number FJ14.

Notes

Since December 2021 the train-approach jingles at the station have used clips of "Wakamono no Subete" and "Akane-iro no Yūhi" by the rock band Fujifabric, whose members hail from Fujiyoshida.
