History

Seki Station opened on 25 December 1890 as part of the Kansai Railway's extension from Yokkaichi to Tsuge, in what is now Sekichō-Shinjo, Kameyama, Mie Prefecture. The Kansai Railway was nationalised on 1 October 1907, and the line was redesignated the Kansai Main Line on 12 October 1909. Freight handling ended on 1 April 1972, and the station was made unstaffed on 1 April 1983. JR West took over on 1 April 1987 with the breakup of JNR, and ICOCA service began on 13 March 2021. The station shares a building with the Sekijuku Furusato Kaikan, which houses the Kameyama City Tourism Association. The stop has two opposed platforms and is the easternmost JR West directly-managed station within the Kinki area.

Notes

When the Mino Electric Railway opened its own Seki Station in Gifu Prefecture in 1923, the older Mie facility's prior naming rights forced the new stop to be called Mino-Seki Station until the line transferred to Nagaragawa Railway.
