History

Tomika Station opened on 5 October 1923 as Kamono Station (加茂野駅) when the Ministry of Railways' Etsumi-Nan Line was extended from Mino-Ōta to Mino-Machi (now Mino-shi). Wagon-load freight handling ended on 29 November 1962, freight handling itself ended on 1 January 1963 and was finally abolished on 1 October 1974, with on-site staffing transferred to a designated contractor on 1 December 1974 and reduced to a simple-commission station from 1 April 1985. On 11 December 1986, when the JNR Etsumi-Nan Line was transferred to the Nagaragawa Railway, Kamono Station was renamed Tomika Station (after the surrounding town), while the neighbouring Kamono-guchi Station was renamed Kamono Station. The station carries number 3.

Notes

Although the station is administratively in Tomika town, the western half of the platform extends into Kamono-chō in Mino-Kamo city, which is why the original 1923 name was Kamono. The station has two side platforms connected by a level crossing, a wooden station building, and a small waiting room on the down-side platform. The station's only spring-loaded points on the Nagaragawa Railway are located here, and ticket sales are handled on commission by a tax-accountant's office occupying the station building.
