History
Shin-Hirano Station opened on 10 November 1918 when the Imperial Railway Bureau extended the Obama Line from Tomura to Obama, accepting both passengers and freight from the outset. Freight handling ended on 1 March 1961, and on 15 March 1973 baggage/parcel handling was discontinued, the station was unstaffed, and its passing loop was removed. After the privatisation of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987 it passed to JR West, which rebuilt the station building in November 1987. Today the station is a single side platform serving a single bidirectional track on the Obama Line, located 43.3 km from Tsuruga in the city of Obama, Fukui Prefecture.
