History

Sono Station opened on 4 February 1915 on what is now the Kita-Matsue Line of the Ichibata Electric Railway, located 15.9 kilometers from the line's terminus at Dentetsu-Izumoshi. It was destaffed on 20 December 1979, and operation of the railway business transferred to a newly established Ichibata Electric Railway Co. on 1 April 2006 when the original Ichibata Electric Railway became a holding company. The station consists of a single side platform serving one bidirectional track. Only local trains stop here; limited-express Super Liner and express services pass through without stopping. The station bears number 12 in the Kita-Matsue Line sequence.
