History
Izumi-chuo Station opened on 4 April 1990 as the new terminus of Sotetsu's Izumino Line, extended 2.2 km south from Izumino. Adjacent commercial complex Sotetsu Life opened on 21 April 1993. The station ceased to be a terminus on 10 March 1999 when the line was extended further south to Shonandai, having become a rapid-service stop two weeks earlier on 27 February. Platform waiting rooms were added in March 2017, and platform-edge doors entered service on 19 April 2023. The station name was chosen because the building is adjacent to the Izumi Ward office, the administrative centre of Yokohama's Izumi Ward.

Notes
Izumi-chuo's platform elevator and accessible toilet, installed at opening in 1990, were the first such facilities on the Sotetsu network.
