History

Gokuraku Station opened on 25 December 2008 on the Akechi Line in the city of Ena, Gifu Prefecture, operated by the third-sector Akechi Railway. It is the newest stop on the line, sited 13.7 rail kilometres from Ena and named after the auspicious word "gokuraku" (paradise). The original station building was renovated on 23 December 2019. The single side platform serves a single bi-directional track and the station is unstaffed; there is no ticket office. The 2008 opening ceremony was reported in the Chūnichi Shimbun under the headline "Auspicious Gokuraku Station".

Notes

The name Gokuraku — literally "paradise" — was chosen for its auspicious connotations; opening tickets and souvenirs from the December 2008 ceremony became collector's items in the area.
