History

Yanaizu Station opened on 25 June 1921 as Nishi-Yanaizu Station on what is now the Meitetsu Takehana Line in Gifu Prefecture; it was renamed Yanaizu on 1 February 1953. Because the original station sat on a curve, the platform was sharply bent and a wide gap opened between train and platform, prompting continual warning announcements and a fall-detection mat the full length of the four-car platform. To improve both safety and convenience, the station was relocated 230 metres east, towards Nishi-Kasamatsu, on 29 June 2008 and made unstaffed, and Transpas — until then the only Takehana Line station without it — was introduced. manaca began service on 11 February 2011, and Transpas service ended on 29 February 2012. On 16 March 2024 the special fares granted to soften the move were withdrawn, returning the station to standard operating-distance fares; most of the former site was converted to a pedestrian and cycle way.
