History

Suruga-Oyama Station, on the JR Central Gotemba Line in the western part of Oyama, Shizuoka, lies 24.6 km from the line's starting point at Kōzu. It opened on 1 February 1889 as Oyama Station on the government railway's route between Kōzu and Numazu, was renamed Suruga Station on 1 July 1912, and was redesignated a Gotemba Line station on 1 December 1934 when the Tanna Tunnel pulled through Tōkaidō traffic south. The present name was adopted on 1 January 1952. Operational control passed to JR Central at JNR's privatisation on 1 April 1987, the station was made unstaffed in 2012, and station number CB08 was assigned in March 2018. In addition to local trains, several runs of the Odakyu Mt. Fuji limited express call here.
