History

Koizumi Station opened on 28 December 1918 with the inauguration of the original Tōnō Railway between Shin-Tajimi and Hiromi, initially handling passengers only. Freight services were added in August 1919. The Tōnō Railway was nationalised on 25 September 1926, making the station part of the Railway Ministry's Taita Line. On 1 October 1928 the line was re-gauged and re-laid, and the station was moved to its present location. Operational management was transferred to a third-party contractor in 1972, and freight handling ended the same year. With the privatisation of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987, the station came under JR Central, and TOICA service began on 13 March 2010, and the station was assigned station number CI06 in 2018.
