History
Kamonaka Station opened on 11 October 1916 on the privately owned Hinokami Railway in what is now the city of Unnan, Shimane Prefecture. The Hinokami Railway was nationalised on 12 December 1932, at which point the route was redesignated the Kisuki Line and was extended further toward Izumo Minari Station. The station became part of the JR West network on 1 April 1987 with the privatisation of Japanese National Railways. The station has a single island platform connected to its station building by a level crossing, and is staffed. The Kamoiwakura archaeological site is the most notable feature of the station's vicinity.

Less than a kilometre from the station lies the Kamoiwakura archaeological site, notable for the Yayoi-period bronze bells (dōtaku) unearthed there.
