History

Kugenuma Station opened on 1 September 1902 on the Enoshima Electric Railway main line, in what is today the city of Fujisawa, Kanagawa Prefecture. From 23 April 1982 the station moved to a temporary structure at the former Fujigayato halt while the Sakai River bridge and station building were rebuilt; the half-underground concourse, current platforms and station building were completed on 25 May 1985. Station numbering (EN04) was assigned in January 2014, and elevators connecting the platform with a new dedicated wicket entered service on 8 April 2014 — still the only elevators on the Enoden network. The station became unstaffed on 16 September 2022.

Notes

Kugenuma is the only Enoden station equipped with a four-aspect platform-arrival signal that allows two trains to enter the passing tracks simultaneously, a layout used on no other crossing station of the line.
