History

Kamakurakōkōmae Station opened on 20 June 1903 as Nissaka Station on what is now the Enoshima Electric Railway (Enoden) Main Line, in the Koshigoe district of Kamakura. It was given its present name, meaning 'in front of Kamakura High School', on 20 August 1953. The stop is famous for the open view of the Pacific and, on clear days, Mount Fuji from its single side platform. In 1997 it was named one of the '100 Top Stations in the Kantō Region', and in 2014 it was recognised as a Civil Engineering Heritage as part of the Enoden infrastructure. The platform restroom closed in mid-2025 and reopened on a restricted schedule the following August.

Notes

The level crossing just east of the station was used as the title-sequence backdrop for the Slam Dunk anime, drawing crowds of overseas fans — particularly from Taiwan — long after the show aired.
