History

Ebi Station opened on 25 March 1922 as the temporary terminus of the Hōkibi Hokusen — the northern half of what would become the Hakubi Line — extending from Hōki-Mizoguchi. The line continued south to Neu on 30 July of the same year, reducing Ebi to an intermediate stop, and was reorganised into the Hakubi Line on 25 October 1928. Freight handling ended on 1 December 1970, parcel handling and full staffing on 14 March 1985, and operations passed to JR West with the privatisation of JNR on 1 April 1987. The present station building, completed in March 1996, is shared with the Kōfu Town Chamber of Commerce and serves as the representative station of Kōfu Town in Tottori Prefecture.

Notes

Ebi is built with a passing loop and three tracks; the third is used as a turnaround for trial runs and special services heading back toward Yonago.
