History

Minami-Gotemba Station opened on 20 July 1962 as a stop on the JNR Gotemba Line between Gotemba and Fujioka in present-day Gotemba, Shizuoka Prefecture — the result of a petition by local residents anticipating residential development of the surrounding area. At opening it served only diesel-railcar passengers and was unstaffed. The Gotemba - Numazu segment was electrified on 1 July 1968, extending overhead wire into the station. With privatisation on 1 April 1987 the station passed to JR Central, and IC-card service began on 13 March 2010 when TOICA became usable. Station numbering was applied to the line in March 2018 and Minami-Gotemba received the code CB11. The station is a single side-platform halt managed remotely from Gotemba.
