History
Kōen-Shimo Station opened on 1921-12-01 with the inauguration of the Hakone Tozan Cable Car Line, taking its name from its position just below Gōra Park. Wartime restrictions designated the cable car as a non-essential line, and the station was suspended from 1944-02-11 to 1950-07-01. Operation passed to Odakyu Hakone on 2024-04-01 as part of an Odakyu Group restructure. The unstaffed station has opposed side platforms either side of a single track; passengers cross underneath the line through a road underpass nearby.
